Pauline Alston studied at the Royal Northern College
of Music gaining a G.R.S.M. in both piano and viola; A.R.M.C.M.
Teacher's Diploma in both instruments and A.R.M.C.M. Performer's
Diploma with Distinction in piano.
Following this Pauline joined
the Hallé Orchestra as a viola player and then moved to
Liverpool to join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. During
her time as an orchestral string player she began to play orchestral
keyboards and on relinquishing her post as No.4 viola player she
became the first call keyboard player for the Orchestra. She is
also the official audition accompanist for the Orchestra and Choir.
In
1986 she was appointed official accompanist to the Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic Choir.In addition to teaching piano at Liverpool
University Music Department and privately, Pauline gives regular
chamber music
concerts with her trio - the Florian Ensemble. In March 1993
she gave a solo piano recital in Milwaukee.
As a further educational
responsibility, Pauline auditions and coaches the young person
each year chosen as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society
Youth
Choir Scholar.In May 2000 Pauline joined the Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic Orchestra on a tour to the Prague Spring Festival.
